Things to Do in Philly

A list of ideas, curated by Will, of some things to see, eat, do or explore during your free time in Philadelphia.

Pretend to be Rocky

The quintessential Philadelphia movie, Rocky, (and sequels) involved the protagonist running up the staircase at Philadelphia Museum of Art. Get a picture, or better yet, a video of the same. Maybe even culture yourself with their excellent collection!

Eat at Reading Terminal Market

There are dozens of food stalls at this indoor market with stellar choices of ethnic and local delicacies, including classic roast beef sandwiches, a friend’s favorite Amish gummy candies, and a vintage ice creamery.

Found a democracy

(or at least learn about how one was founded)

Take a walk through America’s birthplace, Independence Hall, where you can learn all about our founding fathers and their revolutionary ideas. Stroll along the Mall behind them to imagine yourself back in Revolutionary times.

Stroll one of America’s oldest cities

Go for a walk through Old City, the original settlement, now part of the modern city. Stop into any one of the many museums and learn about America.

Eat a cheesesteak

There are countless amazing cheesesteak options around Philly, from the touristy to the personally-recommended-guy-in-small-cheesesteak-shanty. Whatever you do, don’t miss one of these local delicacies!

See the Portal at City Hall

Not only is the City Hall itself a gorgeous building in the center of town, but it also boasts one of the world’s only Portals, an art project built by a designer in Berlin’s Motion Lab.

Wander in a lovely park

Enjoy Fairmount Park, one of the largest urban parks in the United States, including the Philadelphia Zoo and many other attractions.

Check out where Emily went to learn stuff

The University of Pennsylvania is a pretty OK school, and they have at least one famous alumna. Forget the other dummies and go see their gorgeous campus, truly a pinochle of higher learning.

Don a jersey and throw an empty Yuengling can at Santa for no reason

Sports are a Philly tradition, and there’s no better way to celebrate than to put on some Birds swag and shotgun the local favorite. Or at least give Gritty a high five.
